What exactly is the Moby prototype?

The Moby prototype is a Marvell reference design to make affordable, fully-functional, connected tablets available to the world.

We're initially focusing on two areas: Education and Healthcare

For education, the Moby prototype will provide new learning opportunities for children of all socioeconomic backgrounds, using advanced technology.

For healthcare, the Moby prototype will change the way providers and patients get information and communicate, using tablets to make lives easier.

Does Marvell exclusively manufacture and sell the Moby prototype?
Marvell is collaborating with key partner OEMs and ODMs to bring a "best-of-breed" approach to make the Moby concept all it can be. Marvell is providing its advanced, industry-leading System-on-Chip to power the Moby prototype for ultimate performance and scalability.
Where will the product be sold?
The Moby prototype will be made available through our OEM manufacturers and their various distribution and sales channels. Marvell is not selling tablet devices direct to consumers.

Which Marvell processors are being used with the Moby prototype?
The Moby concept is based on Marvell's high-performance, highly scalable and low-power Marvell® ARMADA™ 610 application processor. Marvell is also making available a reference design for developing and testing applications.
What are the features of the Marvell ARMADA 610?
The Marvell ARMADA 610 features gigahertz processor speed, 1080p full-HD encode and decode, intelligent power management, power-efficient Marvell 802.11n Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/FM/GPS connectivity, high performance 3D graphics capability and support for multiple software standards including full Adobe Flash, Android™, Windows Mobile and Ubuntu. The ultra-low power Moby prototype is designed for long battery life.
What software standards is the Moby prototype expected to work with?
The Moby concept offers support for Android.
Is there a demo?
There is a Marvell reference design based on the ARMADA 600 series of application processors. The Moby concept’s feature-set looks very much like this – except it will be outfitted with applications and programs for the education and medical market.

Is there a pre-release program to develop and test applications on the Moby prototype?
The Moby prototype is based on the ARMADA 610 SOC. There is a current reference design, which is available for developing and testing applications. Please visit the Developer Community for more information.
Are any customers working on the Moby prototype currently?
We have seen significant market adoption of Marvell's overall ARMADA line of application processors (more than 50 design wins to date). Although the Moby concept just launched, we have already received high interest from education and healthcare vertical market leaders regarding the Moby concept.
